Schools

The secondary high schools are located in the counties of Cavan and Monaghan, north west of Dublin. There are many all-boys or all-girls schools but also coeducational. School uniform is compulsory in all secondary high schools.

The school year begins in September and is divided up into terms. Exchange students can choose between 1 term (September to December/January), 2 terms (September to Easter) or 3 terms (complete school year). The school system is comparable to the German secondary school system. Students can take part in the transition year (4th year) or the senior cycle (5th and 6th year). In most schools class begins at 8h30 or 9h00 until 3h30 or 4h00. Saturdays are free of class.

Students will attend local schools which I know personally and where I have good contacts with the school admistration. I attended one of the schools myself when I was a teenager. My siblings attended other schools. My nieces, nephews as well as children of close friends are currently attending these schools.
